Desk with a laptop and website mockups, ready for a website creation project

Website creation: cost, timeline and what a good site needs.

· 5 min read

For most customers, the first contact with your business is no longer a phone call but a Google search. If what they find there is a slow site, hard to read on a phone or missing the information they need, they go to a competitor. Below you will find what website creation actually involves, what a business website or an online store should include, how long it takes to build a site and how the price is set.

What website creation means

Building a website is not just design. A complete web design project starts from what you want to achieve (quote requests, phone calls, online orders) and ends with a published site that is fast, found in Google and easy to manage. Along the way come the page structure, the copy, the design, the programming, SEO optimization, hosting and the SSL certificate.

What a business website should include

Whatever your industry, a website that brings in customers has a few basics:

  • a page for each service or product category, with copy that answers what people are searching for, not just a list of headings;
  • visible contact details: phone, email, address and a simple form;
  • responsive design, meaning adapted for phone, tablet and desktop;
  • good loading speed, especially on mobile connections;
  • an SSL certificate, so the address starts with HTTPS and the browser doesn't show “Not secure”;
  • legal pages: terms and conditions, privacy and cookie policy, as GDPR requires;
  • an admin panel where you change the copy, photos and offers yourself.

Business website or online store?

A business website tells customers who you are, what you do and how to reach you. It suits service companies, practices, workshops and anyone who sells by phone or on site.

An online store adds the product catalog, the shopping cart, card or cash on delivery payment, invoicing and shipping. It takes more work to build and more powerful hosting, but it sells even while you sleep.

What Google says about today's websites

Since 2023, Google indexes every site by its mobile version: it officially announced that the move to mobile-first indexing is complete. A site that only looks good on a desktop loses search positions from the start.

Speed matters too: Google's documentation says that Core Web Vitals, the metrics that measure how fast and how stably a page loads, are used by its ranking systems. And the official SEO Starter Guide puts useful content, written for people, first.

Online stores have one more new rule: since June 28, 2025 the European Accessibility Act applies, transposed in Romania by Law 232/2022. Online stores must also be usable by people with disabilities, for example with screen readers.

The steps of building a website

  1. The kickoff talk — we agree on what you want to achieve, who your customers are and which pages you need.
  2. Structure and copy — the site map and the content of each page, planned for Google searches as well.
  3. The design — a mockup you see and approve before programming starts.
  4. Programming — the site is built, with an admin panel, forms and, for stores, cart and payments.
  5. Testing — checked on phone, tablet and desktop, in several browsers.
  6. Launch — the site goes live on hosting, with an SSL certificate, Google Search Console and Google Analytics.

How long a website takes and what it costs

The timeline depends on the number of pages and the features requested. A business website with a few pages is done faster than an online store with hundreds of products and online payments. An honest deadline can only be given once the page structure is set.

The price follows the same logic: it depends on how many pages there are, whether the design is made from scratch, which special features you need and whether hosting, the domain, the SSL certificate and maintenance are included. Ask for a written quote listing everything it includes, so you can compare fairly.

Frequently asked questions about building a website

How long does it take to build a website?

It depends on the number of pages and features. An exact deadline can be given after the first talk, once the page structure is set, and it goes into the quote.

Can I manage the site myself?

Yes. The site comes with an admin panel where you change the copy, photos and offers without any programming knowledge.

Does the site look good on a phone?

Yes. A modern site has to be responsive, and Google indexes it by its mobile version anyway. We check it on every screen width before launch.

Which is better: a template or a custom design?

A template costs less at first, but it is used by thousands of other sites and often comes with extra code that slows pages down. A design made for your business stands out and is built with only what you need.

In short

A good website is fast, looks good on a phone, answers customers' questions and is easy to find in Google. Write to us about the kind of site you need and we will send you a written quote, with a deadline and everything it includes.
